The Toxic Avenger is a 1984 American superhero black comedy splatter film directed by Michael Herz & Lloyd Kaufman, co-written by Joe Ritter, and was released by Troma Entertainment, best known for producing low budget B-movies with campy concepts and gruesome violence.
Summary[]
The story follows a meek mop boy named Melvin who is subjected to torment by the bullies of Tromaville and ends up falling into a vat of acid that greatly alters his appearance which he uses to become a superhero and face the corrupt evildoers of the town. While virtually ignored during its first release, Toxic Avenger has since become a cult classic upon a long successful midnight movie engagement at the Bleeker Street Cinema of Greenwich Village in late 1985. It has also generated a media franchise with three sequels, a stage musical production, and a video game. A reboot of the film was announced by Legendary Pictures in 2019 with Lloyd Kauffman attached to produce. [1]
Action Figures[]
Despite its reputation as a black comedy splatter, Toxic Avenger managed to receive a kids-aimed cartoon that would receive a toyline by Playmates in the 1990's, though SOTA would make a more adult-oriented collectible as part of their Now Playing series. At least each of those toys have a cancelled aspect that are each covered in the links down below:
