The ever enduring mystery that is the "Wonder Bread" He-Man. A figure classed in so much mystery, theories abound about its origins and where it originated from - the company, the purpose, etc.

Appearance

Wonder Bread He-Man has an alternate sculpt from the traditional action figure in which he is based on; his hair was dark brown, chest armor and boots were both black.

Origins

The internet became a household necessity during the late 1990s and during this time, a picture was posted online for sale which spurred collectors into an insane frenzy. Some collectors claim that they "owned this particular figure in their youths" and others claim that this "figure never existed".

Many collectors claim that this figure was released as a giveaway in promotion with Wonder Bread, while others claim that it was a giveaway in promotion with Mattel. Throughout the years, collectors, and fans have contacted both companies and they have denied ever having a promotion in corporation with each other or even seeing the figure at all.

Speculation

With both companies stating that they did not have a giveaway, where did this action figure originate from? Some collectors have speculated that this figure may have been a prototype Prince Adam as it had a production stamp of 1981 (with figures being sold in 1982). Another theory is that the figure may have come from Nestlé, Children's Palace, Jell-O - all these companies have not confirmed this theory. The most popular theory is that this figure was a prototype Conan action figure due to Mattel having the license at the time of the movie coming out in theaters, but this theory doesn't hold up very well as the the movie wasn't as kid-friendly as Mattel had hoped and quickly dropped the license.[1]

Final Verdict

The "Wonder Bread" He-Man action figure has an unknown existence with too many variables, and too much speculation going against it. As such, this action figure will remain: "Existence Unconfirmed".

Trivia

  • To pay homage to this legend, Mattel released an action figure named "Won-Dar" to the subscribers of the "He-Man Collector's Club" in 2010 equipped with a loaf of bread.[2]
